Music Legends unite for Julie Kathan

In early September 2011, Julie Kathan seemed like a typical, healthy 53-year-old woman. But she was not. She was living with glioblastoma multiforme – an aggressive and terminal brain cancer. By late September, she was experiencing mental blurriness. After a trip to the emergency room and emergency surgery, a cancerous tumor was revealed. She was given less than a year to live. On top of having to cope with the emotional trauma that comes with this prognosis, the Kathan family now faces a financial emergency due to Julie’s astronomical medical bills. On April 29, legendary musicians will join together at Tacoma’s Temple Theatre for a concert and benefit auction to celebrate Kathan’s life and highlight her ongoing struggles. “We Care Benefit Concert and Auction” will feature Randy Piper (W.A.S.P.) and Pamela Moore (Queensryche) performing together for the first time; the legendary Sir Mix-A-Lot; and the original men of Heart – Steve Fossen, Roger Fisher, Howard Leese and Michael Derosier – will perform together for the second time in three decades. Also performing will be Spike and The Impalers, Rail, Outtasite, Magic Bus, Fabulous Johnsons, Michael Johnson (George Lynch), Jeff Kathan and Lynn Sorensen, Marino Correia, Caspian Coberly (young guitar virtuoso), ARNY Bailey and more.

Several rock legends have made generous donations of autographed memorabilia, instruments and music lessons for the auction, including: drummers Alan White (Yes, John Lennon), Danny Seraphine (Chicago), Michael Derosier (Heart), Frankie Banali (Quiet Riot/WASP/Billy Idol), and Ben E. (Cheap Trick); vocalist Paul Rodgers (Bad Company, Free); guitarist Randy Hansen; and bassist Evan Sheeley (Bass Northwest). Established businesses and retail brands in the community donated artwork, jewelry, services, food, gift certificates and much more. More than 100 items will be offered for sale in a public auction.
Tickets are available on-line for this historic music event and auction at Doors open at 3:30 p.m., show starts at 4:30.
