Director Alex Cox of “Sid and Nancy” and “Repo Man” fame is a genius in his own right, if you take a second to think about it. Putting rock stars like Joe Strummer, Elvis Costello and Shane McGowan together (as well as other big names like director Jim Jarmusch and the late, great Dennis Hopper, may he rest in peace) in a movie about bank robbers and cowboys deserves some type of honor, if not the gold plated statuette we all come to generally think about.
The aforementioned movie is 1986’s cult classic, spaghetti western and oh-so-punk-rock “Straight To Hell.” Cox has tweaked the re-release and added five minutes of extra never-before-seen footage by cinematographer Tom Richmond to the new version “Straight To Hell Returns,” which will screen on Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Grand Cinema.
Whether you’ve seen the original or not, you’ll want to be there for this one-time-only screening as Cox himself will be in attendance. Fans of free-for-all shoot-‘em-ups and even more violent gory scenes than those that graced the screen in the original film should get your tickets now. This is one Tacoma event you’ll be kicking yourself for missing on Tuesday.
“Straight to Hell Returns”
