“The Golden Trumpet” is the second performance in The Music Off The Walls at the Tacoma Art Museum (TAM). This event will be taking place Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. The Northwest Sinfonietta will be performing a variety of different pieces, a few of those being “Legende” by impressionist composer Georges Enesco, “Aria” by Jean Rivier, “Corollary III” by Brian Fennelly and “Estampes” by Claude Debussy.
The style of this performance is impressionism, a form of musical style that focuses on suggestion and atmosphere rather than depiction of a strong story or emotion to the audience. This night will be filled with beautiful music that promises to be an earful of musical bliss.
The key component is the concert will be set in the lobby of TAM. This setting, as opposed to a typical concert hall, gives “The Golden Trumpet” a personal and friendly mood for an informal and up close experience for the audience. The acoustics of the lobby make for a great performance space for the Northwest Sinfonietta. The selection of TAM not only serves as a great setting for this wonderful event, but provides an addition to what’s in store at “The Golden Trumpet.” The event will not only feature music but also visual arts. After listening to beautifully performed impressionist music, visitors can view “The Movement of Impressionism: Europe, America, and the Northwest” in the museum’s gallery. This exhibit complements the theme and performances of “The Golden Trumpet” by featuring paintings, prints, and sculptures by well-known French impressionists - Edgar Degas, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Camille Pissarro as well as artists from other countries such as James Abbott McNeill Whistler, Mary Cassatt, Joaquinn Sorolla and Ivan Pavlovich Pokhitonov.
During intermission of the performance a curator’s tour of the museum will be available.
This diverse event is perfect for people new to the Northwest Sinfonietta and longtime audience members. The event will feature musicians Judson Scott on trumpet and Cristina Valdes on piano. Scott is the manager and the principal trumpet at the Northwest Sinfonietta. “The Golden Trumpet” is for fans young and old of great impressionist art and music. This collaboration of music and visual arts will be sure to end in a night full of the impressionist era.
Admission for the event will be $28 for general admission or $23 for TAM members and Northwest Sinfonietta members. The Tacoma Art Museum is located on 1701 Pacific Ave. in Tacoma. For more information visit www.nwsinfonietta.org or call (253) 383-5344.
