Due to forecasts for continued sunshine, Metro Parks will extend daily operations at six popular spraygrounds. Typically, the popular attractions operate weekends only during the months of September and May.
“The spraygrounds have been packed this month, so we’re happy to be able to extend this summer experience a bit longer for the community,” said Park Superintendent Marina Becker. “And, it’s a great place for kids to burn off some of that extra energy as they transition from vacation, back to the classroom.”
The spraygrounds will be open daily from 10 a.m. until park closing (1/2 hour after sunset), through Sept. 9, at the following locations:
Jefferson Park – 801 N. Mason St.
McKinley Playfield – 4321 McKinley Ave.
Norpoint Park – 4818 Nassau Ave. N.E.
South Park - 4851 S. Tacoma Way
Wapato Hills Park - 6321 S. Wapato St.
Wright Park – 501 S. ‘I’ St.
POOCH POOL PARTY
Dogs and their owners have been waiting all year for the end of summer’s annual Pooch Pool Party at Stewart Heights Pool (402 E. 56th St.). Frolicking fun await man’s best friend as pooches paddle with other dogs. Pups can lunge through the Lazy River, make a splash in the pool's beach-like entry and participate in contests or run an agility course.
“The pool party provides dog owners and their pets a unique experience after the pool closes for the season. It’s great to be able to put this park asset to a different use before it’s drained and cleaned for the winter,” remarked Jim Biles, senior recreation aquatics supervisor.
Session 1 runs from 10-11:30 a.m.
Session 2: 12-1:30 p.m.
The price is $10 first dog, $5 the second, humans are free. Tickets are available at the door (no advance ticket sales). Approximately 125-150 dogs will be allowed during each session. Please bring well-socialized dogs only to this event. Maximum pool depth: 4 feet, 3 inches.
People are not allowed in the pool during the party, but will be able to watch from the deck. Stewart Heights Pool closed for the summer on Sept. 3. Pool chemicals are turned off prior to the Pool Party to minimize any irritation. Scoop bags will be provided. Dogs must be on leashes when they are out of the pool.
You can help a pet in need. Donations of pet food will be collected at the Pool Party to benefit the Dugan Foundation. Learn more at http://www.duganfoundation.org/.
