// Local record label hosts fourth annual benefit concert

Two Tacoma record labels and a community food bank are teaming up for the fourth year to help locals in need.

On June 19, Maurice the Fish Records will partner with Sweat Box Records and FISH Food Banks to host a free fundraising concert at the Swiss. The event will showcase local bands rocking out for a great cause.

“As much as the community gives back to our record label and our artists, we wanted to also give back and help people with this most basic necessity,” said Raymond Hayden, CEO of Maurice the Fish Records. “We wanted to give back in our own backyard.”

The concert’s line-up includes a wide array of musical artists, spanning nearly every genre imaginable.

  • Kim Archer Band – a blues outfit covering everything from classic rock to some current popular artists
  • Mr. Von – a local hip-hop artist and rapper who will perform original singles from mixed tapes and his debut album “The World On My Back”
  • The Rikk Beatty Band – a three piece instrumental band that runs the gamut of genres ranging from rock to blues to metal
  • Sevens Revenge – playing their own unique brand of covers and originals
  • Josh Rizeberg – Tacoma spoken word and hip-hop artist
  •  Heidi Vladyka – an up-and-coming local singer/songwriter known for her sweet, soulful sounds

There is no cover charge for the concert, but attendants are asked to offer a suggested donation of $10.

Every dollar donated goes directly to the food bank,” Hayden said.

Last year's benefit concert raised $5,000 and this year Hayden hopes to double that amount.

In addition to the impressive selection of music, local businesses and restaurants have donated many door prizes and raffle prizes for the event, Hayden said.

Everyone who pays to come in will get a ticket and a couple of free items.”

There will be additional tickets available for purchase, and a silent auction for other local prize packages.

Prize donors include Tempest Lounge, Matador, Tacoma Rainiers, McCormick Woods Golf Course in Gig Harbor, Silver City Breweries in Bremerton and Lenderman, just to name a few.

For those who cannot attend the benefit concert but still want to contribute to FISH Food Bank's efforts, there is a link on the FISH website that allows for safe, online donations to the organization.

For those looking for a way to get out, enjoy some great local music of all genres and support a far-reaching cause in Pierce County, the FISH Food Banks Benefit Concert is the place to be.

The fourth annual FISH Food Banks Benefit Concert will take place June 19 from 8-11 p.m. at the Swiss (1904 Jefferson Ave.). Admission to the concert is free, but donations to support FISH Food Banks are welcomed and gladly accepted. For more information, visit
