October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and to support the cause there is a fundraiser happening at Envy (2614 N. Proctor St.) and Harbor Naturals in Gig Harbor (3115 Harborview Dr.) to support the Breast Cancer Resource Center in Tacoma.

Throughout this month, 5 percent of sales at both stores will be donated to the center. In addition, customers can also donate cash by placing it in a pink boot at both locations, and 100 percent of the funds collected will go to the center.

The Breast Cancer Resource Center of Tacoma (BCRC) is a 501c(3) non-profit organization supported by individual donations, foundation grants and small government contracts. BCRC is an independent center partnered with other community organizations to enhance the quality of life for people touched by breast cancer. The organization’s goals are to increase awareness of breast cancer and breast health by providing a network of empathetic volunteers and staff ready to help clients gather information to represent diagnosis and treatment options. Many BCRC volunteers are breast cancer survivors themselves, committed to supporting their clients’ need for resources during their journey toward wellness.

Shannon Thompson, owner of both stores, said she was inspired by the breast cancer fundraising event “Puttin’ on the Pink” held in Proctor District last May in which Envy participated. “It was such a positive thing that I decided to do this during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.” She said Envy in Proctor District features trendier clothes at “really affordable prices for a boutique,” while Harbor Naturals offers a more conservative and higher-end selection, featuring top designers like Eileen Fisher.

Also this month, women are invited to attend spa parties at Envy, Oct. 19 and 26 from 2-5 p.m. For $20 clients will receive a lip and eyebrow wax, a hand paraffin bath and a mini-massage. Spa parties are held on the last two Sundays of the month (call beforehand to confirm).
