Dance Theatre Northwest brings back its beloved ‘Nutcracker’
// 2011 Production Features the debut of Anastasia Suave
Dance Theatre Northwest is knows to produce a most excellent “Nutcracker” every year, and this year the tradition returns to Mount Tahoma High School Auditorium. Showtimes are 2:30 and 7 p.m. on Dec. 17 and 4 p.m. on Dec. 18.
Two of the main roles in this production, the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Cavalier, are played by Katie Neumann and Chhay Mam respectively. Neumann has been dancing in “The Nutcracker” ballet for more than a decade. Having performed nearly every female role in the ballet, she is dynamic and confident. However, each season as Dance Theatre Northwest moves into its tradition of producing a few new roles, new costumes, sets, and freshening up the choreography, Neumann, now a professional dancer, gets emotional about her new found strengths and her accomplishments.
Mam initially joined Dance Theatre Northwest as a scholarship student. He not only dances in some of this season's leading roles in DTN's “Nutcracker,” Chhay has also been actively involved in producing new sets for the Party Scene and Land of Snow.
