Arts & Entertainment:  Music, video games and beer on tap for Gamer Jam

A new event for Tacoma is coming to New Frontier Lounge and it looks to be a great time for anyone who loves music jams and video games. It’s called Gamer Jam and it happens Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. Admission is free, but you must be 21 or older.

Gamer Jam fuses live music with live classic video game play. Musicians perform over the music of some great classic console games while gamers play on a big projection screen and compete for high scores.

Gamer Jam has already been happening in Seattle, and now its creators are bringing it to Tacoma via gamer and keyboard/guitar/bass player Louis Messina and friends Steve Borzilleri and Sean Downey, who helped organize it in Seattle.

“We just talk on Facebook and get the event together,” Messina said. Check out the Tacoma Gamer Jam Facebook event page at https://www.facebook.com/events/168730323330176.

With Gamer Jam being so close to Halloween, the event will feature a lot of spooky soundtracks such as “Zombies Ate My Neighbors,” “Little Nemo DreamMaster,” “Castlevania 2” and “Ghouls n' Ghosts.”

For those who would like to jam onstage or play a game on the big screen for others to jam to, post a message to Messina on the Facebook event page. A bass, guitar, keyboard and drums will be provided for certain games to jam over.

So far the acts lined up include an open jam session with gamers Sofia Lee and Jaryn LaFiore playing through “Zombie Ate My Neighbors;” a performance by Peter Geyer, Chance Sosa and Messina of the speed run of “Little Nemo DreamMaster;”

and an open jam session of “Ghouls n’ Ghosts” being played by Alex Peters. Shredder Steve Borzilleri will be playing guitar for “Devil's Crush,” and the Gamer Jam House Band – Kai Strandskov, Borzilleri, Sean Downey and Messina will be performing a medley of the spookiest classic game soundtracks.

Messina said that if this first Gamer Jam shows to be popular, there would be more in the future. New Frontier is located at 301 E. 25th St.
