Art & Entertainment: Annie Wright Upper School Girls perform ‘Little Shop of Horrors’

Boy Meets Girl. Girl Meets Plant. Plant Eats Girl. Come witness Annie Wright Upper School's rockin' take on the 1960s cult classic “Little Shop of Horrors.” The girls will perform two showings: Nov. 2 and 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Annie Wright’s Kemper Theater, 827 N. Tacoma Ave. Tickets can be purchased in advance at http://awslittleshop.brownpapertickets.com.

This delectable musical satire entices with kitschy love, a creepy dentist, and a botanical mean green eating machine. “Given we are a school of young women, it intrigued me to consider redefining the role of the plant,” says Annie Katica Green, Upper School Theatre and Production Director at Annie Wright Schools. “What happens if the plant is a woman? What would she sound like and look like? What if she wasn't a puppet at all? At auditions, I invited the girls to experiment with their interpretation of this quirky character. I was so pleased with how open the girls were to playing and taking risks as they explored the process of reinventing this character. Without revealing too much, I leave you with the assurance that our Mean-Green-Man-Eater is bigger, lovelier, feistier, and gnarlier than even I expected!”

Starring seniors Shiori Oki, Olivia Davis, Manmit Dhami, Haley Parks, and Makaela Mautz as "The Ronnettes" and introducing the lovely Addie Frances as "Audrey" and Tessa Thurman as "Mushnik". Annie Wright welcomes the return of Alex Harrison as "Seymour". Other all-star cast members include Garnet Burk, Preeti Pental, Amari Davis, Panchali Mujamdar, Natalia Ross, Emily Ceaser, Dominique Ward, Mr. Donald Sidman, chemistry teacher at Annie Wright and Alex Harrison, 2011 Annie Wright Day School graduate. Annie Wright Schools are two schools on one campus: a day school for boys and girls in preschool through grade 8, and an all-girls day and boarding school in grades 9-12.
