Amocat Café a welcome addition to the neighborhood

The Amocat Cafe, (read it backwards) situated in an excellent location at 625 St. Helens Ave. in downtown Tacoma near the Mix and Puget Sound Pizza, officially opened June 1 to eager locals and soon-to-be loyal patrons.

The cafe, owned by Morgan Alexander of the Tacoma Improvement Club, boasts an impressive amount of space with three large rooms including the main entrance to the cash register, making it an excellent spot for those who long for the space, lighting and community gatherings that were held at the former Blackwater Cafe and at other local staples such as Satellite Coffee and Mandolin Cafe. Red and yellow walls give the space a warm feel and create an inviting environment for frequent use, in addition to a lovely canvas for artwork by local artists to be hung on. A few outdoor tables and chairs sit outside for the upcoming warmer weeks ahead.

The cafe has worked with local Valhalla Coffee Company on creating a custom-blend specifically for the shop, and visitors have reported that it boasts an incredibly smooth flavor in their espresso-laced beverages. In addition, Amocat serves Mad Hat teas, many bottled beverages, pastries from Essential Baking Company, doughnuts from Le Donut on Hilltop and homemade pastries and quiches, too. Alexander hopes to create his own brands of beer and wine to sell in the cafe, making his a truly Tacoma-centric effort.

Live music will soon be on the horizon for the Amocat as well, making it a perfect place for gathering with friends, reading or work. Stop by the newly opened cafe and support Alexander’s efforts to bring a new spot for locals to experience, be a part of and enjoy.

Amocat Cafe’s current hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday, but Alexander affirms they will be expanded in the near future.
