Post Defiance Date Night will be taking over the ice skating rink at Tollefson Plaza Friday night Dec. 9. Folks can glide and fall on the ice at the Franciscan Polar Plaza as well as see the festivities nearby that include the Two Five Trees and the Holiday Market filled with local shop goodies.

Help Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium celebrate the birthdays of its four polar bears on Dec. 10. See the bears receive special toys and treats and learn about their fascinating lives from their keepers. Two of the bears, Glacier and Blizzard, were found as orphans in the Arctic and will be 16 years old in December. The other two bears, Boris and Kenny, were rescued from a Mexican circus and will turn 26 and 27.
Former Mayor Bill Baarsma will discuss the 1885 expulsion of Tacoma’s Chinese residents during Dickens Festival. He will speak at 4 p.m. on Dec. 10 at King’s Books, located at 218 St. Helens Ave. There is no admission charge.
