Arts & Entertainment: Randy Travis show cancelled

Ailing country legend Randy Travis' upcoming appearance at the Emerald Queen Casino, scheduled for Aug. 18, has been called off. Ticket refunds are available at point of purchase.

The singer – known for “Forever and Ever, Amen,” “On the Other Hand” and other hits – was admitted to Baylor Medical Center at McKinney, Texas on July 7, as he suffered complications from a viral heart ailment. While undergoing treatment he suffered a stroke, but his condition has since stabilized.

The root cause of his condition is idiopathic cardiomyopathy, a weakening of the heart caused by scarring, according to a video update posted on the singer's fan site (

“Mr. Travis does have a family history of cardiomyopathy, and (complications are) likely related to that,” said Dr. Michael Mack, a cardiac surgeon from Baylor Medical Center who is featured in the video.
