Four tricked out trucks debut at Monster Jam

// See Iron Man, Hot Wheels, Destroyer and Double Trouble at Tacoma Dome Jan. 13-15

The roaring of souped-up engines, the smell of burning rubber, monster trucks crushing everything in their path – it can only mean one thing: the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam show has returned to Tacoma Dome. The show runs Jan. 13-15, and tickets are on sale now.

The ultimate event of intense speed, racing and destruction, this year the thrill ride spectacle celebrates the 30th anniversary of the legendary Grave Digger and features the Puget Sound debut of three monster trucks – the 1,500 horsepower Iron Man, which debuted at Atlanta’s Georgia Dome in 2010 as part of the promotion of the “Iron Man 2” movie; plus the all-new Monster Jam 2012 season trucks Metal Mulisha at 10,000 pounds and 12-feet high; and the 17-foot long Hot Wheels with its unique body style and state-of-the-art construction.

This year, 12 massive trucks in all will be part of the action. Returning fan favorites include the Capt. USA truck with a local driver behind the wheel – Jeff Bainter of Cle-Elum – along with other truck powerhouses such as Lucas Oil Crusader, Monster Mutt Rottweiler, Shock Therapy, Excaliber, Razin Kane, Ice Cream Man and Titan.

Approximately 12 feet tall and about 12 feet wide, monster trucks are custom-designed machines that sit atop 66-inch-tall tires and weigh a minimum of 10,000 pounds. Built for short, high-powered bursts of speed, monster trucks generate 1,500 to 2,000 horsepower and are capable of speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. Monster trucks can fly up to125-130 feet (a distance greater than 14 cars side by side) and up to 35 feet in the air.

Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam is sanctioned by the United States Hot Rod Association and is the most popular monster truck tour, performing to over 4 million fans in more than 325 performances annually at the most prestigious arenas and stadiums throughout the world. Shows consist of three main fan-favorite elements – the pit party, side-by-side racing and freestyle competition.

The ultimate experience for any die-hard Monster Jam fan, the “Party in the Pits” pre-show experience on Jan. 14 provides fans with the opportunity to get a view of the massive monster trucks up close and meet the drivers. (Pit Passes are required for entry; $10 for adults and $5 for kids (ages 2-12), available for purchase online in advance and at the venue box office.)

Tickets are available for purchase at the Tacoma Dome box office, online at, or charge by phone at 1 (800) 745-3000. One of the most popular touring family entertainment sporting events in the world, Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam events are affordably priced for the whole family with seats starting at just $20 for adults and only $5 for kids (advance purchase only).
