Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium FREE course on Disaster Recovery in Rural Communities - 8:00 am

This course teaches community leaders and emergency managers in rural communities how to plan for and execute disaster recovery efforts. Upon implementation, this course will assist rural communities with expediting disaster recovery efforts and facilitating the long-term economic success of their communities. Examples from Hurricane Katrina and towns devastated by tornadoes will be used as case studies to examine why communities were successful or unsuccessful in their recovery efforts. Additionally, students will actively engage in a fictional disaster recovery scenario. The Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium (RDPC) is making it easier for emergency responders in and around Tacoma, Washington to be prepared for such events by delivering a FREE U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)-certified course MGT 415 - Disaster Recovery in Rural Communities. This eight-hour instructor-led course assists rural communities with effective and efficient implementation of recovery efforts to help ensure the best possible long-term social and economic recovery of their communities from disaster. The show itself will run from Friday, November 8th to Sunday, November 10th, noon‐4:00. The 6th annual Franke Tobey Jones’ Senior Art Show will be hosted November 8th through 10th in the M. J. Wicks Wellness Center on the Franke Tobey Jones campus. The show will kick off with an Artists Reception and Awards Ceremony open to the public on Thursday, November 7th at 5:00 p.m. The show itself will run from Friday, November 8th to Sunday, November 10th, noon‐4:00. After the showing at Franke Tobey Jones, the entire show will be featured at the Tacoma Art Museum from November 13th to December 10th in the Community Art Room. Join us at Tacoma Art Museum for a lecture by renowned printmaker Randy Bolton about the role of research in contemporary art practice. Bolton will define the two models of traditional research in academia, then suggest a third model that fits his personal thirty-year experiences as a teacher and studio artists. He will speak about the development of his work and highlight his most recent series of sculptural prints. Born and raised in Hawai’i, Makana is an internationally acclaimed slack key guitarist, singer, composer, philosopher, activist and one of Hawaii’s cultural ambassadors to the world. He is considered the youngest authority on his art form and recognized as one of the top guitarists in the US (Guitar Player Magazine 2008). His music was featured in the George Clooney film, The Descendants and that album is a 2013 Grammy nominee. This time we're changing Locations. We've moved to the New Frontier Lounge in Tacoma! And the shows gonna be free!!
