Discover the History and Intrigue of Nature in the Northwest. After the age of exploration, the discovery and identification of new species continued to generate great excitement among nations. David Douglas: A Naturalist at Work studies the intersection of geography, science and cultural history through the work of the famed Scottish naturalist and his discovery of more than 200 species in the Northwest. Guest curated by Jack and Claire Nisbet, the exhibit opens at the Washington State History Museum on Saturday, September 21, 2013, and displays Douglas’ journals and observations of Native tribes, rare 19th century botanical books and his original pressed specimens, bird mounts, pelts and skins. In addition, the exhibit traces the origins of the eponymous Douglas fir tree. David Douglas: A Naturalist at Work will be on display through February 23, 2014. Info:
