On Jan. 10, Tacoma Community House (TCH) will celebrate a century of service to the community. On that day exactly 100 years ago TCH began offering services. TCH began as a settlement house working to address the immediate needs of the Italian immigrants who settled in Tacoma in the area today known as Hilltop.
January 10, 2010 is known to TCH as Centennial Sunday. This is a day of celebration, and is the official kickoff to a year of festivities celebrating TCH’s service to the community and honoring the contributions it has made to Tacoma and the state of Washington.
Join TCH for a praise worship from 2-4 p.m. It will take place at Mason United Methodist Church, located at 2710 N. Madison St.
More About Centennial Sunday
Since TCH was founded by deaconesses of the United Methodist Church (UMC), and since TCH is a national mission institution of the UMC, the organization will be celebrating this day throughout the Pacific Northwest Annual Conference. Churches on that Sunday are encouraged to collect a special offering to commemorate this historic event.
TCH is in the process of planning a joint worship session for that day, which will be an opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate TCH through prayer and worship.
Please check back at the TCH website periodically for more updates about the TCH Centennial. For more information, please contact Derrick Rhayn at (253) 383-3951.
100 Acts of Kindness
As a part of TCH’s Centennial Celebration, the organization is launching a campaign called 100 Acts of Kindness, which honors the institution’s service to the community, and engages others in service. Kindness has the ability to transform people, places and communities, and this principle is one of TCH’s enduring values. TCH has a legacy of compassionate service, and feels that the best way to share this legacy during its 100th anniversary celebration is to have the community experience the acts of giving and receiving kindness.
TCH is asking the public to join in celebrating this legacy by committing your organization or congregation to completing an act of kindness next year. To participate TCH asks that the act of kindness occur between January and December 2010.
Once an organization has completed its act of kindness TCH asks that it completes the online form found on the TCH website. The organization will gather all the acts of kindness and post them on the online page.
