Uncle Sam’s American Bar and Grill in Spanaway is once again living up to its patriotic namesake. On Dec. 11 a fundraising night will be held in honor of the four slain Lakewood officers, with all proceeds donated to the Lakewood Police Independent Guild (LPIG).

Dave Arrowood is the owner of Uncle Sam’s. He said Dr. Dave of the band Trix contacted him about putting a benefit show together, as one of the officers who died was a friend of Dr. Dave’s. Arrowood said he was more than willing to donate the stage in his establishment for this very worthy cause. “Anything that helps the community, I’ll do it,” he said.

On the bill that night will be three outstanding bands. Trix is a five-piece rock band that plays hits from the 1950s on up to today. With four lead singers, Trix is known for their vocal harmonies and rockin’ sound. They have a sizeable playlist, and some of the artists and tunes they cover include Ted Nugent (“Stranglehold”), Billy Idol (“Rebel Yell”), Tom Petty (“I Won’t Back Down”) and Collective Soul (“Shine”) just to name a few.

Joining them will be two more local rock favorites with whom several members of Trix play: ZZ Top tribute band La Grange and Lynrd Skynrd tribute band Whiskey Creek. These two cover bands really need no introduction, as they play all the greatest hits from the monsters of rock they are named after.

Money for the fallen officers’ fund will be raised three ways. A pay-what-you-can donation cover charge will be collected at the door. “Some people only have a few bucks and some donate $20,” Arrowood said, and either way it’s all good. An auction will take place featuring goods donated by local bikers (like tattoo gift certificates, beer signs, etc.) and a raffle will be held to raise even more funds. Arrowood said he expects some police officers from the area to be there, too.

The popular and biker-friendly Uncle Sam’s has gained a nice reputation in the South Sound not only for great food at great prices, but also for being a place that gives back to the community. Right now they have several holiday donation bins there to collect food and toiletries for people in need, so those planning to attend the benefit show should consider bringing along something extra to drop in the bins.

Uncle Sam’s American Bar and Grill is located at 16003 Pacific Ave. S. The bands start playing at 8 p.m.
