Stadium gets first win
The Stadium boys basketball team won its first game of the season, as it defeated Menai of Australia, 58-51.
Ian Badillo was the high scorer for the Tigers with 11 points.
Mt. Tahoma girls win
Carrie Ojeda of Mount Tahoma was just too much for the Stadium Tigers girls. The Thunderbirds finished the first quarter on an 11-0 run and pulled away during their 94-38 Narrows League win at Stadium on Dec. 5.
Stadium cut the Mount Tahoma lead to 12-11 following a Megan Lockert three-pointer, but the Thunderbirds (3-0 overall, 1-0 Narrows League) took advantage of Ojeda down low to extend the lead to 58-17 at halftime. Ojeda scored 16 of her game-high 31 points in the second quarter.
“We tried to double team her every time she got the ball,” said Stadium coach Steve Jacobson. “She was still able to find a way to score.”
Keana Magalei converted on four three-pointers on her way to a 16-point night, while Leana Magalei added two treys and 15 points to lead Mount Tahoma.
Stadium (0-3, 0-1) was led by the nine points of sophomore Nikki Roberts off the bench. Emily Zimmerman paced the Tigers with seven rebounds.
“Nikki did a great job of shooting the basketball tonight,” Jacobson said. “It was nice to have our team attacking and putting some pressure on the other team to defend us.”
