If you are out enjoying all that is on tap for Freedom Fair this July 4, you might see Angelina Jolie in the crowd…or Brad Pitt, perhaps Madonna, or maybe even President George W. Bush. In fact, you may see all kinds of “celebrities” who plan to enter the first-ever Freedom Fair Look-Alike Contest.
This novel idea was developed by Centell Jackson, who has been promoting music and events in our region for more than a decade. He also deserves the kudos for bringing hip-hop to First Night several years ago. Jackson said the contest is open to anyone of any age just as long as they look like someone famous. “We’re looking for people anyone would recognize,” he said, noting that two “stars” have already signed up – rapper and actor Ice T, and Rick Moranis, who starred in the 1986 remake of “Little Shop of Horrors” and 1989’s “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.”
Contestants will be required to show a talent onstage, which will help increase the chance of winning. After all the contenders have been brought to the stage, a three-judge panel will pick the top three, then the audience will choose the ultimate winner by how loudly they cheer for their favorite.
For an entry fee of $25, contestants will have a chance to win the top prize of $125 and a gift certificate for two for brunch at C.I. Shenanigans. Second prize is $75 and a gift certificate, and third prize is a trophy.
Those who wish to participate can register at Freedom Fair or in advance by downloading the application online at www.FreedomFair.com or pick one up at One Heart Café at 604 S. Fawcett or at ARS Records in Tacoma Mall, or e-mail Jackson at cenkenblzn1@yahoo.com.
