It has only been a few months since renovation of the new clubhouse at Highlands Golf Course was wrapped up, and the extreme makeover of the course was essentially completed with the tree sculpture of Angus McDuff in the middle of the first fairway this past April. But it has been 77 years since the course came into existence, and that is cause for celebration June 20.
The club’s heritage is being marked with a one-of-a-kind tournament that will offer 18 different hole-in-one prizes, one for each of the holes on the course, none of which is longer than 220 yards.
For an $80 entry fee, here is what the ultimate shot in golf could fetch:
Worlds Series game for two with airfare; Nike Sasquatch Driver; Four-day trip to Hawaii; Four-day trip to Cancun; Two Seattle Mariner season tickets; Las Vegas golf trip; Taylor Made Burner; U.S. Open golf vacation for two; Pontiac Solstice; Cutter & Buck $1,000 gift certificate; British Open golf vacation; Alaska fishing lodge package for two; Reno golf package for two; Bandon Dunes golf package for two; Masters weekend for two; Coeur D’Alene golf vacation for two; PGA Championship package for two; Toyota Highlander Hybrid.
The tournament has drawn about 80 participants in both men’s and ladies’ divisions.
The odds of a golfer shooting a hole-in-one on a par-3 is roughly 30,000 to 1, according to the National Golf Foundation. If anyone can beat those odds at Highlands at its 77th year celebration, they are assured of being handsomely rewarded for the feat.
